John and Yoko, The Dick Cavett Show (Part 1)
Were he not taken down by a nutter with a piece, John Lennon would be turning a very hilarious 69 today. He’d probably spend the evening sitting around a table watching Paul and Ringo muttering disparaging comments about Yoko’s birthday spread under their breath, everyone feeling a little bit awkward. But, no, he’s been spared that particular joy, so shall instead be dining at the lord’s table with Hendrix, Joplin, and John Entwistle from The Who – a man who would also be enjoying the warm breeze of birthday salutations, were it not for a drugs and prozzies binge a few years back. Even so, we thought we’d get John a gift, so we went rollerskating with dogs pulling us along, discussing ideas, and it wasn’t long before it had boiled down to a toss up between nine quid, or a clip or three from his interview on the wonderful Dick Cavett Show in the early 1970s. In the end we got him both. Happy Birthday John Lennon!
