Forgotten beauties: Joanna Lumley

Both posh, privileged… and pretty

Believe it or not, but there was a time when Joanna Lumley wasn’t that angry old woman shouting something about Gurkhas. She used to be a real sex kitten back in the 1970s, when she was the sassy successor to Diana Rigg in The Avengers – cleverly rechristened The New Avengers – then she went on to cause a middle-aged ripple in shows like Lovejoy and Absolutely Fabulous, in which she played a posh drunk woman, and everyone fell about laughing. Yes, she really was quite the gal, with an intriguing mix of delicious looks, and a very well-to-do speaking voice. Just lovely.

As ever, there will be no posh totty for the boys without a bit of rough for the girls. Below is Tom Selleck.
