Biz’s Beat of The Day
Were he not the victim of a massive heart attack in 1984, James Mason would be turning a very actorly 100 years old today. He’d be at home, floating on a lilo on the pool in his mansion, reading aloud his telegram from Queen Elizabeth II over and over again to his servants. He’d remind them that it is he – James Mason – who has turned 100 today. Not the servants. They, he would laugh, would never make it to 100, because they are servants. Whilst he is James Mason. James Mason the actor. James Mason who was Captain Nemo. James Mason who is 100 years old today, and has just received a telegram from The Queen. As it is, he’s dead. Still, we thought we’d get him a present, so we all sat down under a canal bridge eating Texan Whoppers, talking things through, and it boiled down to a toss up between a George Michael CD or a clip from the kid’s TV show, Yo Gabba Gabba. In the end we got him both. Happy Birthday James Mason!
