Forgotten beauties: Erika Eleniak

The original Baywatch babe

Back when it all began, Baywatch was a hard hitting lifeguard drama, featuring limp bodies being fished out from underneath rocks, and Mitch Buchannon‘s slow descent into a pit of morbid insanity. How could the man possibly contend with such a furious ocean? Each episode would end with Buchannon on his knees in the sand, roaring at the heavens as another shark bitten corpse washes up on his beach. It was depressing, late night television. Until, one day, a glorious young actress called Erika Eleniak pulled on the dashing red swimming costume, and improvised some wonderfully sensual scenes as a lifeguardess called Shauni. Oh, what a gal she was, with a body as toned and impressive as a ripened grapefruit. She changed the whole shape of the show, and before too long it morphed into a long sequence of glorious women (Yasmine Bleeth, Summer, Donna D’Errico, Pammy) working out to a soft rock soundtrack. Viewing figures erupted off the scale. Since leaving the show, Erika has unleashed her body in Under Seige, and starred oposite Burt Reynolds in The Librarians.

Of course, we wouldn’t dream of serving up a beachy treat for the guys without something hairy and gorgeous for the girls. Below is Tom Selleck.

    My youthful dream.

I went to the trouble, as a youth, of reserving a copy of Under Siege at my local video store. I had heard tell of wonderment. I was not disappointed.

    They were glorious.
