Al Green, Take me to the River
Al Green – yes, the Al Green – is 63 today, which makes him exactly forty years younger than Samuel Beckett, who would have been 103 had the cold hand of death not snaffled him in 1989. The soul singer has enjoyed quite a life – enthusiastically gobbling up all of the tasty treats that come with being a famous singer, before suddenly turning his gaze upwards to the heavens, and becoming a preacher man. We decided to get him a gift, and after an evening of whiskey and cards, it boiled down to a toss up between a new bike to cycle to church, or a clip of the old days before he caught the Jesus bug. In the end we got him both. Happy Birthday Rev!
