Had he not died in 2006, Joseph Barbera would be turning 98 today. He was one half of Hanna-Barbera Productions who brought us such great cartoon characters as Yogi Bear, Top Cat, and Hong Kong Phooey. He was also Michael Jackson’s childhood hero, apparently. We talked long into the evening, eating Cuban food, trying to figure out what to get this hero of animation. It boiled down to a toss up between a selection of fruit curds – with the emphasis on lemon – or an old cigarette advert starring The Flintstones. In the end we got him both. Happy Birthday Barbera!
