Herbie Hancock jams for Quincy Jones
A bit like Bruno Martelli in Fame, there’s a good chance that most of Howard Jones’ bed partners were seduced by the sound of his synthesizer. No one before or since has managed to extend a computerised bleep to quite such ginormous and sexually gratifying proportions. Hence, when we found out that today was his birthday, and that he was going to be 54, we had a pretty intense debate about what to get him. One side thought we should buy him the film 54 – about New York’s Studio 54 – while the rest thought a great clip of Herbie Hancock and his robotronic keyboard would hit exactly the right note. In the end we got him both. Happy Birthday Howard Jones!
